As a regime of Northern Dynasties, the Northern Qi Dynasty was the continuation of the regime for Tuoba tribe which froms Xianbei people in the Northern Wei Dynasty. As a northern nomadic ethnic group, Xianbei ethnic group had clearly accepted the Han culture through reform, and their politics had inevitably form a special cultural phenomenon of ethnic fusion. Shanxi has experienced the coverage of the Northern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty, there had left a large number of Northern Wei and Northern Qi relics’ history. Xuxianxiu’s tomb in the Northern Qi Dynasty is one of its representatives. Although the painted murals of Xuxianxiu’s tomb is only 326 square meters, as a historical imprint under the background of the cultural exchange on the Silk Road, the mural images of the Xuxianxiu’s tomb are not only inherited the cultural atmosphere of the nomads in the Northern Wei Dynasty which have build a new characteristic of Chinese culture. These murals give symbolic records of the unique cultural phenomena of Northern Qi society in the form of images, and illustrate the process of national integration and the cultural exchange on the Silk Road in the form of image narratives. Under the fusion of multiple cultures, it reflects the tomb owner’s reverie about the afterlife world. It has both a reappearing realistic style and a symbolic expression form which formed a unique image with nomadic culture, Western culture and Han culture.
