Research has been actively conducted on the role and value of cultural heritage in various academic fields. However, few empirical studies have been conducted on residents" perceptions of cultural heritage and its impact on the region. In this context, this study empirically analyzed how the management of cultural heritage or residents’ attitudes toward it affect local attachment and community formation. To this end, a structural model was established among cultural heritage management, attitude toward cultural heritage, local attachment, and local community, and verified. As a result of the analysis, it was found that cultural heritage management had a positive (+) effect on local attachment, and also on local community by mediating it. Attitude toward cultural heritage also had a positive (+) effect on local attachment, and it was found that it had a positive effect on local community by mediating it. Based on these results, we discuss major issues, such as the local residents’ perception of cultural heritage and the mediating role of local attachment. In conclusion, this study suggests the importance of local government policies and roles, planning and development of various programs considering regional characteristics, and continuous efforts to improve the cultural heritage landscape and viewing environment.
