This study analyzed the female consumers’ beef purchasing status by country of origin(COO) in Seoul and Gyonggi-do region. This study focused on beef cuts that are often purchased, purchase of beef cuts according to recipes by COO, purchase Status of beef for Soup, and absolute and relative quality depending on beef origin. The sample was collected from 346 women in their 20s and 50s from Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Beef cuts frequently purchased differed according to age, occupation, and degree of cook. It was found that as the age increased, the purchase of brisket for soup increased (p<0.001). Beef cuts for grilling and steak differed according to family type. The beef cuts purchased according to the recipe for each beef origin differed according to demographic characteristics. For grilling and steak, there was a difference according to the family type, and for soup there was a difference according to marriage, family type, and occupation. Korean beef scored the highest in both absolute and relative quality by COO. U.S. and Australian beef were considered relatively cheaper compared to its quality. In the survey of physical and transactional risks, 4 out of 6 questions showed a tendency to recognize high risks in the order of US > Australian = beef > Korean beef. The study found that Korean female consumers considered that Korean beef was high-quality and safe for price, and preferred using Korean beef when the deep flavor of beef is important such as steak, Bulgogi, and soup. This study will be used as basic data to improve the competitiveness of domestic beef by comparing the absolute and relative quality, physical risk and transaction risk of beef by COO.
