Purpose : Stuttering is a complex problem that impairs speech fluency as well as psychological aspects. This study analyzed domestic studies on the cognitive and emotional characteristics of stuttering to know the research trends and future tasks. Methods : Among the papers that searched for the words ‘stuttering, emotional, cognitive, psychological, and intrinsic’ as keywords in Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), 31 studies suitable for the purpose of the study were included. Based on 31 studies, published year, research type, research subjects, cognitive and emotional characteristics, intervention techniques, and research results were analyzed. Results : Research has been conducted continuously from 2005 to 2021, especially since the mid-2010s. There were many characteristics studies as the type of study, and there were more adults than children as the study subjects. Among the cognitive and emotional characteristics of stuttering, communication attitude, self-efficacy, perception of stuttering, and anxiety were studied with high frequency. There were 10 studies that showed differences in cognitive-emotional characteristics between stuttering speakers and normal speakers, and 4 studies showed no differences. There were 3 studies that showed a correlation between stuttering and cognitive-emotional characteristics, and 4 studies did not. All six interventions to treat cognitive-emotional aspects were reported to be effective. Conclusions : The need for additional research was confirmed to evaluate and mediate cognitive-emotional characteristics of stutterers.
