The purpose of this study is to examine the regional environmental factors that affect depression in single-person elderly households. For this purpose, individual-level data were collected from individuals of single-person elderly households residing in Suwon City through a questionnaire survey. (N=436), and data were constructed by linking these with community indicators of 43 administrative dong units. Data were analyzed using a hierarchical linear model (HLM). As a result of the analysis, it was found that the aging rate, community poverty rate, and leisure welfare facilities for the elderly had an effect on depression in single-person elderly households. And among individual level variables, it was confirmed that housing environment satisfaction, neighborhood environment satisfaction, service accessibility satisfaction, subjective health status, and subjective economic status had an effect on depression. Based on these results, policy and practical implications such as expansion of leisure welfare facilities for the elderly, creation of a walking environment, and guarantee of access to local services were suggested to reduce depression in single-person elderly households living in the community.
