The Chinese language education in South Korea has a long history. The Chinese education in higher education has a history of more than 70 years. It has been 20 years since Chinese education was incorporated into the curriculum system of middle schools. The market for Chinese off-campus training has continued to grow. In 2004, the world"s first Confucius Institute was established in South Korea, which is an important milestone in international Chinese education. However, under the background of the great changes not seen in a century, Sino-US competition and COVID-19, international Chinese education is also facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Chinese education in South Korea covers many dimensions, such as higher education, primary and secondary education, off-campus training and Confucius Institute, which all have long history and deep foundation. As the leader of Chinese education in South Korea, Confucius Institute should avoid risks as far as possible, grasp the favorable policies of foreign language education, make good use of the situation, and strive to build a Chinese education community, to promote the localization, characteristic, digitization, coordination and systematization of Chinese education in South Korea to a higher level.
