This study set out to investigate Park Wan-suh's viewpoints of affection and the sense of identity in her female subjects in her narratives exhibiting a pattern of "love" or "first love" in her novels. The study would examine the meanings of the love of a young woman that underwent a war period and those of her first love during a war that she recalled in old age. In her The Naked Tree, Park depicts "love as a fantasy." It becomes energy for a woman that has desire for family affection and for an artist that burns an artistic spirit to overcome a difficult time. In her A Thirsty Season, which depicts love amid a war, Park shows "love as a sense." A young lady in her twenties is swept by love that is passion opposite to ideology and arouses her physical senses. Her love in a passionate skin, however, loses its power when it confronts "ideology" and "living." In her The Man's House published in her old age, Park depicts first love as a "deviation" to escape from a monotonous daily life. In this work, the author describes a woman that excludes love from her life to choose dailiness and daily happiness on which the author focuses on. When the woman recalls her first love in old age, it represents the speaker's tolerant attitude to life. Love amid a war depicted in Park's novels does not convey the pain or agony of love much because of the weight of survival to take "living" as a priority over love. Her female subjects that should endure a war place importance on "living" and have a certain distance from ideology. It is important to notice that her "love narratives" make use of a triangular structure and contain weak conflicts. Finally, the author depicts delicate feelings with food and clothes in the embodiment of her "love narratives." Some of the characteristics of her novels depicting a daily life vividly have impacts on her narratives of "first love" or love, as well.
