Variety and sharp conflicts occur in contemporary society. What solution can philosophy provide to these social conflict problems? Hermeneutics views interpretation as a universal phenomenon in which misunderstanding and differences occur. Thus, it can be a reference point to determine the possibility of communication as a solution for conflicts. Furthermore, hermeneutics aims to narrow the gap between the interpreter and the text. Based on the history of hermeneutics, I examined the cause of the conflict (difference) and the solution of communication in hermeneutics. Normative hermeneutics emphasizes the author's intention as a fact of the past, whereas phenomenological hermeneutics considers opening the present meaning of existence. Each type of hermeneutics has a limit. Thus, I will proceed with the third solution based on Ricoeur. I will also suggest a practical meaning of hermeneutics based on the third solution derived from the history of hermeneutics.
