(연구배경 및 목적) 도시환경에 대한 물리적 측면을 강조하던 기존의 공공디자인 방식은 사회적 관계 속에서 문화를 형성하는과정과 방법으로서의 사회적 기능은 상대적으로 간과되었다는 한계에 마주하고 있다. 물질적 만족감보다는 정서적 교류와 심리적 만족감, 정신적 치유에 관한 관심의 증대를 요구하는 사회학적 기류에서 본 연구는 개인과 공동체, 지역사회를 연결하는 공공디자인의 사회적 역할에 주목하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 개인과 사회의 삶의 질과 가치 향상을 위한 새로운 방법론으로서 고민해보아야 할 개념 중 하나인 사회적 처방과 연계하여 공공디자인 확장의 방향성을 고찰하고, 연결관점에서의 새로운 역할을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. (연구방법) 연구의 방법은 먼저 주제, 과정, 결과물 측면의 공공디자인 변화 양상과 사회적 처방의 개념과 특성에 대한 이론적 고찰을 토대로 공공디자인 확장의 방향성을 제시하였다. 이어서 공공디자인 확장의 방향성을 토대로디자인 사례를 분석하고, 사회적 관계를 매개하고 형성하는 공공디자인 관점의 주요 키워드를 도출하였다. 끝으로 사회적 연결기능을 위한 키워드의 의미를 고찰하여 연결관점에서의 공공디자인의 역할을 제시하였다. (결과) 공공디자인의 변화 양상과 사회적 처방 개념을 연계한 공공디자인 확장의 방향성은 자원의 발견, 과정의 공유, 결과물의 경험 측면으로 제시하였다. 사례분석을 통해 사회적 연결을 매개하는 과정에서 나타난 주요 디자인 키워드를 일상성, 비경계성, 공동체성, 관계성, 참여와 교류, 상호작용성, 행동유도성, 역량강화, 지속가능성으로 도출하였다. 공공디자인과 사회적 연결을 관련 짓는 것은 개인과 공동체의 일상과 사회 사이의 모순과 갈등을 좁히기 위해 요구되는 공공디자인의 시대적 역할과 가치를 확인하는 과정으로 이해하고, 개인과공동체, 지역사회와의 연결적 측면에서 공공디자인의 사회적 기능과 의미를 제시하였다. (결론) 공공디자인은 물리적 대상물을개선하거나 사회적 문제를 해결하는 수단으로 활용하는 것을 넘어 개인과 공동체, 지역사회를 매개하여 새로운 관계를 형성하고, 이들의 역량을 강화하는 역할로 확장되어야 할 것이다. 사회적 연결을 위한 과정과 방법론으로서 공공디자인의 시대적 역할과가치를 인식하고, 이러한 역할이 가능성으로 그치지 않도록 실천적이고 구체적인 논의가 확대되기를 기대한다.

(Research Background and Purpose) Existing public design methods that emphasized the physical aspect of the urban environment are facing limitations in that the social function as a process and method of forming culture in social relationships has been relatively overlooked. In a sociological climate that requires increased interest in emotional exchange, psychological satisfaction, and spiritual healing rather than material satisfaction, this study paid attention to the social role of public design that connects individuals and communities. Therefore, this study examines the direction of public design expansion in connection with social prescription, which is one of the concepts to be considered as a new methodology for improving the quality and value of life for individuals and society, and suggests a new role in the connection point of view. (Research Methodology) As for the method of the study, the direction of public design expansion was first suggested based on theoretical considerations on the aspects of public design change in terms of subject, process, and outcome, and the concept and characteristics of social prescriptions. Then, based on the direction of expansion of public design, design cases were analyzed, and major keywords from the viewpoint of public design that mediate and form social relationships were derived. Lastly, the role of public design in the connection point of view was presented by examining the meaning of keywords for social connection function. (Results) The direction of expansion of public design, which links the changing aspects of public design and the concept of social prescription, was presented in terms of resource discovery, process sharing, and outcome experience. Through case analysis, the main design keywords that appeared in the process of mediating social connection were derived as daily life, non-borderline, community, relationship, participation and exchange, interactivity, action induction, capacity building, and sustainability. The relationship between public design and social connection is understood as a process of confirming the role and value of public design in the era required to narrow the contradictions and conflicts between daily life and society of individuals and communities, and connection between individuals, communities and communities. The social function and meaning of public design were presented by approaching the social aspect. (Conclusion) Public design should go beyond using it as a means to improve tangible objects or solve social problems, and expand to a role of forming new relationships and strengthening capabilities by mediating individuals and communities. Recognizing the role and value of public design as a process and methodology for social connection, it is expected that practical and specific discussions will be expanded so that this role does not stop as a possibility.
