The Relationship Between Youth Depression andInternet Overdependence Under COVID-19:Moderating Mediating Effects of Self-esteem by GenderSeunghyun Roh Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between internet overdependence and self-esteem of youths according to COVID-19 by verifying the moderating mediating model to examine whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between depression and internet overdependence and whether it mediates the mediating effect of self-esteem according to gender. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and Process Macro 4.0. As a result, first, self-esteem had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between depression and internet dependence of youths. Second, in the effect of depression on the overdependence of the Internet, self-esteem through gender had a moderated mediating effect, especially in female students, the conditional indirect effect was greater than that of male students. This result is meaningful in that it confirmed the role of self-esteem as a protective factor for youths. Above all, it is necessary to consider whether to bias excessive Internet use into addiction in the situation that is being learned online because of COVID-19, and to study the current situation that can not but depend on the Internet in an Ontact environment more multidimensionally.
