This study investigated the effects of electrolyzed water, a substitute as a second agent in digital perms, on hair damaged due to oxidative permanent hair coloring. After performing a digital perm at 80oC and 100oC with hydrogen peroxide, purified water, alkaline electrolyzed water and acidic electrolyzed water as a second agent, wave formation and retention were compared. It is compare the severity of hair damage. In terms of wave formation in dyed hair, the group thermally treated at 80oC was better than the group thermally treated at 100oC. However, the alkaline electrolyzed water group was shorter than the hydrogen peroxide group by 0.50% at 100oC, which means better wave formation. In terms of wave retention for wave formation, the alkaline electrolyzed water group was better than the hydrogen peroxide group by 0.50% at 80oC and 100oC. According to analysis of the degree of hair damage, when the hair was permed at 80oC, the hydrogen peroxide group was revealed the severest hair damage. In the alkaline electrolyzed water group, in contrast, were similar to the hydrogen peroxide group, less hair damage was observed. The acidic electrolyzed water group hair damage was the lowest in the former group. Therefore, the study results found that alkaline electrolyzed water, which revealed good wave formation and wave retention with little hair damage, would be good as an alternative for the second agent in digital perm on dyed hair.
