The purposes of this study was: 1) to compare social capital, social competence, and happiness for the two groups: adolescents of one-parent family and adolescents of two-parent family, and 2) to verify the mediation effects of social competence in the relationship between social capital and happiness. We found several significant results. First, in the mean values of the total of social capital, social competence and happiness, adolescents of one-parent family was significantly lower than adolescents of two-parent family. Second, social capital had positive effects on social competence and happiness. Moreover, social competence in the relationship social capital and happiness played a partial mediating role. In conclusion, above all, the study suggested the necessity to develop special programs for the enhancement of social capital and social competence. Especially, special programs should be provided children and adolescents in one-parent families.
