In this paper, through Sun Wen's Hongloumeng picture book created in the Qing Dynasty, I tried to examine what scenes Sun Wen, the reader of the novel Hongloumeng and the creator of the picture book, took from the plot of the novel and why. First, looked for the cause in the characteristics of the original Hongloumeng itself. The imagery of the original text is the most suitable element for visualization, and it has become an inevitable object of representation for the painter. Next, I looked into it based on the creative purpose of Sun Wen, a reader and secondary creator. Sun Wen considered whether it would match the appearance of the Honglou world that he wanted. Finally, I analyzed Sun Wen's picture book through the structural perspective of the pictorial narrative. The scenes Sun Wen selected are essential to express the theme consciousness in the structure of the pictorial narrative of the entire picture book. Through this, we confirmed the great influence of the Hongloumeng on metatext. And it has been identified that the attitude and competence of the artist as a reader and creator plays a key role in the creation of a picture book.
