In the Koi section of the Kokin Wakashu, waka poems are arranged in chronological order from first love to the end of love. It is thought that by arranging the poems in this way, the authors tried to depict the typical process of love.
In order to achieve this, the compilers of the Kokin Wakashu are thought to have understood the waka materials collected at hand without considering the circumstances under which they were composed. As a result, the majority of the poems in the Koi section of theKokin Wakashu are presented as "untitled. On the other hand, there are a few poems in the Koi section of the Kokin Wakashu that are not "untitled. These poems are not part of the typical process of love depicted in theKokin Wakashu, and are considered to be special and individualized.
Based on the above, the Koi section of the Kokin Wakashu is considered to have been created with the main purpose of showing the typical process of love, while at the same time interspersing atypical episodes as if they were accents.
