This study examined the structural relationship between metacognition, self-efficacy, and self-leadership among college students. To confirm this, a research model and two hypotheses were established based on theoretical considerations, and an empirical analysis was conducted. First, the relationship between metacognition and self-efficacy was examined. Second, the relationship between self-efficacy and self-leadership was analyzed. As a result of testing the hypotheses using the research model, it was found that metacognition, specifically regulation and inspection, had a significant effect on self-efficacy. However, metacognitive planning did not show a significant effect. Additionally, self-efficacy was found to significantly influence self-leadership. Therefore, the hypotheses were partially supported. These findings confirm the theoretical implications that metacognition has a positive effect on college students’ self-efficacy in learning situations. It suggests that self-efficacy can be improved through activities that involve controlling and monitoring one’s own learning process. Although metacognitive planning did not show an effect, the development of competency improvement programs that incorporate planning, practice, and control is necessary. Furthermore, the study revealed that self-efficacy influenced self-leadership, emphasizing the importance of fostering self-efficacy in students so that they become active and creative talents capable of self-leadership in the rapidly changing society. Hence, improving self-efficacy through metacognition control and monitoring and fostering self-leadership skills highlight the need to nurture individuals with active and creative capabilities for successful engagement in society.
