This study analyzed changes in population growth and population composition between 2000 and 2020 for rural areas in Gyeonggi-do. The population size increased in the eastern and southeastern areas of the province, and decreased in the southern and northern borders of the province. Population change was affected by social increase as the urban sphere affected by the de-urbanization of the Seoul metropolitan area expanded and the number of migrants from urban areas increased. In population growth areas, the age group 40 years or older led the population increase, but in population decline areas, the age group under 50 years led the population decline. 6 types were derived from the classification of rural areas with similar changes in population composition. In the type of population growth, middle-aged and older people participating in economic activities tended to lead the population growth. On the other hand, in the type of population decline, the age group under the age of 20 tended to lead the population decline. The migration of the age groups participating in economic activities to rural areas leads to population growth, but also implies the possibility of causing daytime hollowing out or bed town in rural areas.
