This paper’s purpose is to think about abstractness and participation thinking depending on whether background are drawn or not in comics or webtoon cut. Generally in oder to make an image abstractive, the easiest way had been to erase its background. History of painting had done and advertisement also had done. There is no exception in comics. This paper argues that effects of background treatment in comics is different from effects in advertisement or general paintings. To be brief, Comics is media treating time, unlike advertisement or painting images. Therefore, comics induce participation thinking from non-background images because of their some ambiguity. That is a different trait of abstractness which single AD images have. To develop this opinion, this paper intends to discuss about what perception is, first. Then, will prove it through case studies that comics or web toon have feature of cool media because of their form based on time, narrativity, not because of its low information.
