Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in lower body muscular strength and muscle power among male wrestlers at the middle school, high school, and university levels.
Method: A total of 24 male wrestlers participated in this study, didveid into three groups: middle school wrestlers (MG, n=8), high school wrestlers (HG, n=8), and university wrestlers (UG, n=8). All data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA, followed by the Scheffe post hco test. Pearson’s correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between age and the muscular strength and muscle power of wrestlers.
Results: The results of this study are as follows. With the exception of sit-ups, which showed a significant difference in physical fitness, variables such as standing long jump, vertical jump, whole-body reaction time (light), and reaction time in the vision test were higher among the UG compared to the MG and HG. Regarding lower body anaerobic capacity, both relative average power and peak power were higher in the UG compared to the MG. Furthermore, various variables releatd to lower body isokinetic knee muscle strength, such as absolute left extensor and right extensor at 60°/sec, as well as relative left extensor and right extensor at 60°/sec, and absolute left extensor and right extensor, as well as relative left extensor and right extensor at 180°/sec, were significantly higher in the UG compared to the MG. Among these, the right extensor muscle exhibited the highest level among university students.
Conclusion: In conclusion, UG exhibits higher power, agility, lower body anaerobic power, and isokinetic knee muscle strength compared to both MG and HG. Additionally, a strong correlation is identified between age and lower body anaerobic power, as well as isokinetic knee muscle strength.
