This paper compared and contrasted compound adjectives of the “noun+adjective” type in Japanese and Korean, classifying them in terms of the parts of speech of constituents, their features as word, case relations, degree of semantic coupling, and morphology in terms of differences between the two languages, yielding the following results.
(ⅰ) In terms of the parts of speech of constituents, there are types common to Japanese and Korean as well as different types.
(ⅱ) Both Japanese and Korean exhibit lexical integrity.
(ⅲ) In both Japanese and Korean, the most common case relation is the nominative case relationship.
(ⅳ) When classified by degree of semantic coupling, both Japanese and Korean have a “simple type,” “fusion type,” and “intermediate type” of compound adjectives.
(ⅴ) In Japanese, there are cases of morphological changes and cases of conversions of parts of speech.
(ⅰ) In terms of the parts of speech of constituents, there are types common to Japanese and Korean as well as different types.
