This study aims to meticulously understand the status and demand of physical activities among the population based on data from the National Community Sports Survey. The 2018 survey data, which included 6,410 respondents, were analyzed to explore the relationship between general characteristics and physical activity using the chi-square test.
The results revealed that the participation rate in physical activities was higher among females than males, and was particularly high among those over 60, those with an education level of high school or less, simple labor workers, and individuals earning less than 2 million KRW per month. The main reason for using nearby sports facilities for both men and women was "due to proximity." Younger individuals with higher education levels, professionals, and those earning more than 5 million KRW preferred specialized facilities.
Regarding the type of sports facilities, males preferred private sports facilities, while females opted for other types of facilities. Public sports facilities were predominantly used across most age groups, whereas private sports facilities were more popular among those in their 20s and 30s. Individuals with high school or vocational college education levels primarily used public sports facilities, while those with a 4-year university degree or higher tended to use private sports facilities. Public facilities were most commonly used by machine operators and assemblers or those earning less than 2 million KRW per month, while professionals and those earning more than 6 million KRW frequented private sports facilities.
