The purpose of this study was to identify the moderating effect of sports participation motivation in the effect of social network addiction tendency of Chinese students in Korea on alienation. To this end, data from a total of 300 Chinese students in Korea were collected. In this study, SNS addiction tendency was set as an independent variable, alienation was set as a minor variable, and sports participation motivation was set as a control variable. Frequency analysis, correlation, simple regression analysis, and PROCESS MACRO regression analysis were performed using SPSS 26.0 for collected data analysis to verify the relationship and moderating effect between variables. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, SNS addiction tendency, internal motivation, and external motivation all had a significant effect on the feeling of alienation. SNS addiction tendency had a positive (+) effect on alienation, and internal and external motives negatively (-) effect on alienation. Second, in the effect of SNS addiction tendency on alienation, internal motivation showed a significant moderating effect. Third, external motivation showed a significant moderating effect in the effect of SNS addiction tendency on alienation. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that practical measures to provide opportunities to participate in sports and strengthen the environment to participate in sports are needed to prevent and alleviate the alienation experienced by Chinese students who are prone to SNS addiction.
