This study identifies similarities and differences found in the exchange of information between Korean learners of Japanese and native Japanese speakers. Specifically, the data from the first three meetings were compared and analyzed between native language scenes and contact scenes. Topic initiation focused on the language format and its frequency, and analyzed patterns of information exchange for the initiated topic and its frequency. The results revealed the following. When developing a topic, KJ's information exchange pattern used all patterns to gather information about the other person from the first meeting, and J gradually reduced the number of types of patterns used and appeared during the third meeting. In this way, KJ is considered to have a rapid progression of conversation, while J is considered to have a stable progress. It turns out that KJ and J have different ways of gathering information and proceeding with the topic.
