This study analyzed conversation topic introducing methods targeting first encounter conversations (210 minutes) between opposite genders consisted of Koreans who are advanced in Japanese language and native Japanese speakers. Koreans who are advanced in Japanese language were twice more likely to suggest topics by asking questions to native Japanese speakers. When suggesting topics by asking questions, Koreans used the forms which added expressions such as “なんか” and “とか” to nouns and “~じゃないですか” which is the question demanding agreement. Koreans were three times more likely to use blurring the end of speech when asking questions than native Japanese speakers. When it came to native Japanese speakers, it is interesting to know that there was no tendency to suggest topics by blurring the end of speech except for a certain speaker. In addition, Koreans were 7 times more likely to ask questions in narrative style than native Japanese speakers.
In the case of introducing a topic by talking about oneself, Koreans suggested `opinions, experiences, and personal information` and Japanese introduced topics in various personal stories such as `opinions, experiences, personal information, hope, preference, future, and talking to oneself``. Also, talking about oneself in narrative style and talking about oneself in evaluative style were observed.
As a result of examining topic introducing tendencies based on gender, among Koreans who are 25 years old and higher and native Japanese speakers who are 25 years old and lower, women were twice more likely to introduce topics by asking questions than men.
