Meta-Analysis of Sexual Education Intervention Studies for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities: Focus on Domestic and International Group Studies
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of sexual education interventions for individuals with intellectual disabilities and to identify variables that influence effect sizes, thus providing evidence-based practices for sexual education for individuals with intellectual disabilities. To achieve this, a meta-analysis was conducted on 21 domestic and international sexual education intervention studies targeting individuals with intellectual disabilities. The studies were analyzed based on participant characteristics (age, number), research methods (intervention duration, intervention time, intervention location, interventionist, assessment method), independent variables (teaching methods), and dependent variables (assessment content). The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, the overall effect size of sexual education intervention studies targeting individuals with intellectual disabilities was found to be .439, indicating a moderate effect size. Secondly, when examining intervention effects based on moderator variables, it was found that age, number of participants, intervention duration, intervention time, intervention location, interventionist, and assessment method had a significant impact on effect sizes. Thirdly, when analyzing the results by independent variable, it was found that lectures, question-and-answer sessions, activity-centered teaching, role learning, and strategic teaching had a significant impact on effect sizes. Fourthly, when analyzing the results by dependent variable, the effect sizes varied in the following order: attitudes toward sexuality, sexual behaviors, and sexual knowledge. Based on these results, discussions and recommendations are presented.
본 연구의 목적은 지적장애인을 대상으로 한 성교육 중재연구의 효과를 살펴보고 효과크기에 영향을 주는 변인을 파악하여 지적장애인 대상 성교육에 대한 증거기반의 실제를 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 지적장애인을 대상으로 한 국내외 성교육 중재연구 21편을 대상으로 메타분석을 실시하였다. 연구 참여자(연령, 수), 연구방법(중재 회기, 중재 시간, 중재 장소, 중재자, 평가 방법), 독립변인(교수 방법), 종속변인(평가 내용)을 기준으로 국내외 성교육 중재연구를 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지적장애인을 대상으로 한 성교육 중재연구의 전체 효과크기는 .439로 중간 정도의 효과크기로 나타났다. 둘째, 조절변인에 따른 중재효과를 살펴본 결과, 연령, 수, 중재 회기, 중재 시간, 중재 장소, 중재자, 평가 방법이 효과크기에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 변인인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 독립변인별 분석 결과, 강의, 질의응답, 활동중심교수, 역할학습, 전략교수를 적용할 때 효과크기에 유의한 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 종속변인별 분석 결과 종속변인에 따른 효과크기는 성 관련 태도, 성 관련 행동, 성 관련 지식 순으로 나타났다. 위 결과를 바탕으로 논의점 및 제언을 제시하였다.
