The impact of different anesthetic methods, such as desflurane-remifentanil and propo fol-remifentanil anesthesia, on the quality of postoperative recovery remains under-investigated.
The Quality of Recovery-40 (QoR-40) questionnaire is a widely used self-rated questionnaire to assess this, and the Korean version of the QoR-40 (QoR-40K) was used in this study. In this prospective randomized study, 100 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) were randomized into either the desflurane-remifentanil (group D) or propofol-remifentanil group (group P). The QoR-40K scores were evaluated preoperatively, 24 hours postoperatively, and 48 hours postoperatively.The patient demographics and preoperative QoR-40K scores were com parable between the groups. No significant differences were observed in QoR-40K scores at 24 hours postoperatively (group D: 177.8±20.1 vs group P: 174.4±18.7, p=0.390) and at 48 hours postoperatively (group D: 188.2±12.3 vs group P: 184.9±13.1, p=0.210). In addition, there were no significant differences in the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, numeric rating scale scores, or patient satisfaction between the groups. Desflurane-remifentanil and propo fol-remifentanil anesthesia exhibited comparable results in terms of quality of recovery after LC when assessed using the QoR-40K.
