This study analyzed the effects of two characteristics of software-related startup companies, strategy orientation, and technology orientation on startup performance. In addition, the mediating effect of innovation capabilities between software-related startup characteristics and startup performance was also investigated. The analysis results verified the complete mediating effect of innovation capabilities in the relationship between the characteristics of software-related startup companies and startup performance, and all five hypotheses suggested in the research model were supported. Therefore, the results of this study drew theoretical implications for the relationship between the characteristics of software-related startup companies, innovation capabilities, and startup performance, and will contribute to the increase of innovation capabilities and improvement and improvement of startup performance to promote the startup performance of software-related startup companies.
