As interest in the aesthetic function of nails increases, the demand for Gel Nail Polish Manicure (GNPM) is increasing, but GNPM"s gel nail polish removal methods, the drill method using a grinder and the ASS method using acetone, have a negative impact on nail health. It has been pointed out as an influencing factor. Accordingly, this study evaluated the effect of repeated drill and ASS procedures on nail damage, confirmed the risks of gel nail polish removal method, and proposed a gel nail polish removal method that can reduce nail damage. As a result, regardless of the gel removal method, the thickness and weight of the nail decreased at a constant slope in proportion to the number of repeated procedures, and the elastic modulus continued to decrease. The drill method decreased thickness, weight, and elastic modulus more than the ASS method. However, the amount of methylene blue adsorption in the ASS method increased by about 12 times per unit area of the nail and about 2 times per unit weight compared to the drill method. SEM images also confirmed that the damage to the nail surface caused by repeated gel treatment was more severe in the ASS method than in the drill method. In conclusion, the ASS method caused more damage to the nail surface than the drill method, but the decrease in nail thickness and elastic modulus was less than that of the drill method. This means that the ASS method is more effective than the drill method in removing GNPM gel polish while minimizing nail loss.
