The current study targeted former Chinese international student employees who graduated from, or completed higher education at institutions such as universities, graduate schools, and vocational schools in Japan and are now working for companies in Japan. The reasons for finding employment in Japan, use of study abroad experience in the workplace, and job satisfaction were surveyed. The findings of this study showed that “Utilization of knowledge and skills,” “Familiarity with Japanese life,” and “Stable life” were the reasons why Chinese former international student employees found jobs in Japan. In addition, “interaction with Japanese people,” “specialized knowledge,” “logical thinking/analytical methods,” and “Japanese people's attitude toward work” were also specified as the experience gained while studying in Japan which can be utilized in their current jobs. Regarding job satisfaction, the results highlighted an overall high level of satisfaction with the job content, work environment, and human relations in the workplace, as well as a high level of overall satisfaction with their jobs. The results also showed that job satisfaction was high when the respondents considered that in their current job, they were making use of the “specialized knowledge” and “Japanese attitudes toward work” they gained from their study in Japan. The results also revealed that job satisfaction was higher when the respondents had high Japanese language ability, and they have someone to talk to when they have a problem versus when they have no one.
