This study analyzes Mongolian place names in eastern regions of Inner Mongolia in economic and cultural terms. As settlement culture and population movement in the pastoral society have formed a unique lifestyle, each place name reflects economic and cultural characteristics. Especially, many Mongolian words include cultural meanings of the minority races. Currently, through the fact, we can understand cultural distinctiveness of Mongolian place names. We can understand Mogolian people’s culture, folk habit, and religion based on the words by periodic formation. You can tell that meaning of a word can be interpreted differently depending on the time of development.
Mongolian place names in eastern regions of Inner Mongolia are important factors which reflect the economic and cultural changes. This study focuses on how these regions’ place names have been formed and changed and on the cultural and economic meaning. It also emphasizes that researches on Mongolian place names can play major roles in regional study and culture preservation.
