Purpose: This study aimed to analyze educators' perceptions of the educational use of the metaverse and explore its characteristics, educational value, and social issues. The primary objective was to understand the impact of the metaverse on educational settings and to consider educational approaches based on these insights. Method: The study analyzed qualitative data collected from focus groups involving 10 educational researchers and practitioners who participated in the <Metaverse Education Leaders Training Program> conducted online at OO University. Results: Participants evaluated the metaverse as having positive educational values, such as enhancing creativity, overcoming spatial and temporal limitations, and providing diverse experiences. However, they expressed concerns about potential negative aspects, such as identity confusion, lack of non-verbal communication, and indifference towards social minorities. These results suggest that while acknowledging the metaverse's potential educational value, caution and ethical considerations are necessary in its use. Conclusion: The need for a systematic approach to the educational use of the metaverse and ethical education was emphasized. For the metaverse to become an innovative educational tool, it is crucial to clarify ethical standards and educational norms alongside technological advancements, as well as practical utilization strategies that earn the trust of field educators.
