This study aimed to investigate the effects of perceived coach trustworthiness, trust in coach, participant grit, and loyalty on exercise adherence intention among recreational swimming participants, as well as to examine whether facility accessibility moderates the relationships between these variables and exercise adherence intention. To achieve the research objectives, a survey was conducted with 287 members of recreational swimming centers, and 257 valid responses were used for analysis. Data analysis was performed using SPSS ver. 26.0 and AMOS ver. 22.0, employing frequency analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of the study are as follows: First, among the components of coach trustworthiness, integrity and enthusiasm had positive (+) effects on trust in coach, while ability and benevolence did not have significant effects. Second, trust in coach was positively (+) related to both grit and loyalty. Participants with stronger trust in their coach were more likely to show increased loyalty and demonstrate grit by persisting toward long-term goals. Third, loyalty had a positive (+) effect on exercise adherence intention, indicating that participants with established trust relationships with their coach were more likely to continue exercising. Fourth, grit did not significantly influence exercise adherence intention, which contrasts with findings from previous studies. Finally, facility accessibility did not moderate the relationships between trust in coach, grit, loyalty, and exercise adherence intention. The results of this study provide practical strategies for recreational swimming coaches to build trust relationships with participants and enhance their psychological motivation, ultimately contributing to promoting participants’ long-term exercise adherence.
