This study examined public leisure spaces in low-rise residential areas and residents’ perceptions, considering the growing importance of neighborhood leisure spaces due to lifestyle changes caused by COVID-19. The research focused on three areas in Seoul: Yeonnam-dong, Hwagok 2-dong, and Junggok 1-dong. It utilized regional analysis and a resident survey with a sample size of 623. Findings revealed that most residents engage in leisure activities within their neighborhoods, with high usage of publicly operated facilities. A quantitative analysis ranked the leisure space availability as Yeonnam-dong, Junggok 1-dong, and Hwagok 2-dong, which generally aligned with residents’ perceptions of space sufficiency. However, differences in leisure satisfaction were not directly tied to the quantity of facilities or perceived sufficiency. The results emphasize the critical role of public leisure spaces in daily activities but suggest that simply increasing the number of facilities may not improve satisfaction. Effective development should balance quantitative and qualitative factors while considering residents’ needs, usage patterns, and socio-demographic characteristics. This research highlights the need for public support in low-rise residential areas, showing that the existence, quality, and use of leisure spaces are distinct issues. It provides a foundation for designing public leisure facilities that enhance satisfaction and improve residents’ quality of life.
