Purpose: This study was investigated to compare the role-expectations and role performance on gerontological nurse practitioners perceived by nurses of the long-term care hospitals and general hospitals.
Method: The subjects totaled 200 nurses, with 100 nurses form long-term care hospitals and 100 nurses form general hospitals. Questionnaires were used to analyze the job of gerontological nurse practitioners with measured tole expectations. Date were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 version program with x²-test, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and pearson correlation coefficients.
Results: Results indicated that there were significant differences in the role-expectations and role performance of gerontological nurse practitioners from long-term care hospitals and from general hospitals.
Conclusion: Since that nurses in general hospitals showed significantly higher role expectations than nurses of long-term care hospitals, it is necessary to publicize the roles of gerontological nurse practitioners and advanced practice nurse system to nurses of long-term care hospitals.
