Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of neurofeedback training for reducing stress in adolescents to identify the possibility of using for nursing intervention. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post quasi-experimental design was used. Participants in this study were 78 adolescents and were assigned to the experiment group (n=39) which received the neurofeedback training; and the control group (n=39). Data were collected on heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance level (SCL) to assess stress-biomarkers response. The questionnaire containing 164 items on positive and negative affect (PANAS) for assessing the emotional response to stress and SCL-90-R for assessing the psychiatric response to stress. The neurofeedback training was based on the general adaptation syndrome (GAS) model and body-mind model. The intervention was conducted a total of 10 sessions for 30 minutes per a session and consisted of high-beta and theta inhibit training and SMR reinforce training on scalp at Cz. Data were analyzed suing SPSS/WIN 24. Results: Compared to two groups, There was a significant difference in SDNN, Ratio LF/HF in HRV and SCL of stress-biomarkers response. In addition, negative affect in PANAS and O-C, DEP in SCL-90-R were statistically significant. Finally, self-regulation mode in self-regulation ability scale was a significant diefference. Conclusion: The results indicate that the neurofeedback training is effective in lessning stress-biomarkers, emotional, psychiatric response to stress and improving self-regulation. Therefore, stress response management of adolescents have to give focus on the brain-science approaching strategy and neurofeedback training based brain-mind-body model can be used as an effective nursing intervention in clinic and community for physical-emotional-psychiatric response and self-regulation to stress.
