유치원에 있어서 학습공간의 건축계획적 요소를 제시하기 위해 학습공간을 원아들의 생활과 공간의 대응이라는 관점에서 조사 분석하였다. 조사내용으로서는 일제학습 및 자유놀이시의 생활상을 통해 원아들의 공간이용상황과 놀이의 종류 및 그 영역에 대하여 관찰하였으며, 세부적으로 놀이의 연령별.성별 공간이용율, 놀이의 집단규모, 놀이의 지속시간을 조사함으로써 원아들의 특성을 파악하였다. 이와 병행하여 일제학습 및 자유놀이시의 각 행위에 따른 필요면적을 1인당 소요면적, 그룹별 소요면적, 율동시 소요면적으로 분류하여 산출함으로써 원아수에 따른 학습공간의 적정규모를 제시하였다.
