The enforcement of eVCP, that is, the VCP supplement for Electronic Presentation facilitate the Electronic Letter of Credit and eVCP is not take the place of the VCP but is a supplement. The eVCP was in force as of 1 April 2002 and definitions such as electronic record, electronic signature, format, paper document, received was redefined to take account of the electronic age. Under VCP transactions, the banks have examined the stipulated documents on the basis of strict compliance or substantial compliance based on the International standard banking practice.
Under eVCP, credit must specify the formats in which electronic records are to be presented and if not, electronic records may be presented in any format. Electronic records may be presented separately and need not be presented at the same time.
The eVCP will have a positive effect on the documentary credit transactions. The articles of the eVCP are in accordance with the that of the VCP except electronic presentation. The eVCP is independent of specific technologies and developing electronic commerce system, that is to say, Bolero system.
The purpose of this paper is to study the main substance of eVCP and standard for examining documents under VCP and eVCP and to enhance the understanding of the eVCP and to facilitate the use of electronic letter of credit.
