Substantially, history is, despite of studying the past, a futurology. Henceforth, we are going to compete with our surrounding nations including China, Japan and the Maritime Provinces of Siberia(沿海州), and history will be earnestly researched. In May 2002, China started the Dongbukgongjeong(東北工程) Project with the Chinz board line(中國邊疆史地硏究中心) as a central foundation. And Goguryu(高句麗) is the main theme. Their claim is as follows. First, they call the identity of Goguryu into question. Second, they insist that Goguryu(高句麗) was not a sovereign nation, but under the control of their Empire. Finally, it is a civil war that the Goguryu(高句麗) wared with Sui(隋) and Tang(唐).
Then, What purposes China distort Goguryu's history'? Above all, they want the relics of the Goguryu to be resistered in the World Heritage of the UNESCO. Second, they intend to justify their Neo-Imperialism of China(新中華帝國主義). Third, their underlying intention is not only to intensify the control of the surrounding nations, but also to weaken the influence of Korea on the Manchuria(滿洲). Besides, it is matters connected with the Cando Land(間島) and the Maritime

In order to cope with the purpose of Dongbukgongjeong(東北工程), we, at least, need to interpret our ancient history as an unified history with the ocean, land and peninsula. And then, we can not only understand our
unified history but also assert the succession of Chosun as an arganism having a self-completeness and a driving force.
