This article examines possible theoretical solutions to the challenges facing Christian religious education in relating Jesus to Post-modern culture. Unique characteristics of Post-modernity are addressed and applied to Christian education. A focus of dialog and interaction are necessary to develop balanced orthodoxy and orthopraxis approaches needed for creative methodology.
Positive and negative views of Post-modernity are deliberated along with various theories relating Christian education with creative methods of presenting Jesus to current culture.
Leaders in Christian education can no longer be passive receivers of preordained truth. Leadership in Post modernity necessitates creative visionary knowledge. Educational methodology must be examined and applied with new forms of media. It is not effective for leaders to look for new pragmatic methods, but to return to the educational methods of Christ which are revolutionary for the 21st century. Not all methods of Christ are being utilized in this information technological age. Does the image of the Good Shepherd need updated? New metaphors for Christ are yet to be discovered.
Innovative ways of presenting traditional methods must be developed. Christian education must leave the classroom and enter the global community. There is no simple formula. Providing the context for a relational Christ is a formable task.
Would Jesus utilize a PDA or Tablet PC, if he were here today?
