The following is the conclusion of analyzing Kokuryo's Royal Title, based on the 'Kokuryo's Annals' (高句麗本紀) of 'Historical Records of the Three Kingdoms'.(三國史記)
The first Royal Title to be arranged was during the reign of King Kukjo, King Chadae, and King Shindae. Then the tradition was established in King Dongchon's era, in which the Royal Title was to be determined based on the monarchal burial ground.
The Royal Line and Title of Kokuryo was primarily arranged during King Sosurim's reigning years. Next, King Kwangaeto re-arranged the 'guardian system of the Royal Tomb'(守墓制), thereby completing the work of firmly establishing the legitimacy of the Kokuryo's royal family line. It was also during the Kwangaeto's time that the Royal Title began to embrace king's achievements and features as well. However, the advent of aristocratic-coalition regime during King Anwon generated the weakening of monarchal power. So, since then the tomb-based Title again became the sole way of expression.
The Royal Title of the three kings, namely Taejo. Chadae, and Shindae, were re-arranged along with their three predecessors, Dongmyong, Yuri, and Daemushin, during the compilation of the 'shinjip' historical records in King Yongyang's reign. This movement was generated from the effort by Kokuryo's society to enhance monarchal power, as well as strengthening external pride and legitimacy.
