This paper examines the nature of the Anabaptism, especially in connection with 1525 German Peasants' War. So far, Anabaptism is often regarded as a continuation of the ethos of 1525 German Peasants' War by Marxists. Otherwise Mennonite scholars have asserted Anabaptism as a genuine religious movement that never influenced Peasants' War.
The Anabaptists wanted to restore primitive church model based on Believer's church, Equality and ‘Sola Scriptura', the idea of Reformation. In this religious idea, there should be new social and political changes differing from the existing system. In particular, rebaptising is apparently disobedient conduct. It means pursuing the personal freedom and opposing the state church.
In these causes peasants and craftsmen who had participated in the uprising were attracted by Anabaptism. But according to the recent social studies of Anabaptism it was not a movement limited to the proletariat, and there was a little link between the peasant uprising and the Anabaptist Movement.
I have undertaken a comparative studies between 12 Articles and other peasants' documents and Schleitheim Articles which were Anabaptist general principles. I would conclude that the peasants and the Anabaptists have same principles and aims which were construction of Community or Gemeinde. But two movements had different directions and ways to which they attempted to practice it.
Though Swiss Anabaptists formed an independent religious sector, the rest with more diverse spectra carried out the ideals of German Peasants' War via Hans Hut and Munster kingdom. The ideals of the movement aimed at the construction of a Gemeinde aspired to diversify the spectrum of Anabaptism.
