The purpose of this research is to develop the model for assessing sustainable development in cities in East Asia and to generate basic data for sustainable development of East Asia cities by applying the developed model to cities in Korea, Japan, and China and clearly identifying common features and differences of the cities. To this end, Ansan was selected as a study area in Korea, Kitakyushu in Japan, and Dalian in China. The study was conducted by performing a comparative analysis on each of DPSER elements of the stage model of the developed urban sustainability assessment model. These cities stand in a common development path. This is expected to be helpful in understanding the development patterns of other cities in East Asia that are in similar stage with the three cities and developing plans on how to address them. In Response(R) part, it was revealed that as all three cities recognized the necessity of harmony of environment and development and began to generate and execute alternatives. As a result, industrial environment pollution stage and urban environment pollution stage of Ansan and Dalian, of which industrialization and urbanization began later than Kitakyushu, are shortened and the cities are quickly approaching a stage of harmonizing environment and development.
