The purpose of this study is to define the effect of the older's sport participation on thier stress according to the social and psychological variables. The subjects are 427 olders in K Province. There are five scales used in this study: the scale of sport participation measured by frequence; the social support scale made by House and Wells(1979); A/B Type scale made by Jenkins(1996); the stress scale made by Korean Stress Management Co.(1900); and Somatization made by Derogatis et al.(1974). The results are as follows:
1. In descriptive analysis, the male shows higher social support than the female does, but the female shows higher somatization than the male does.
2. In analysis of t-test between participants and non-participants, the participants show higher social support than the non-participants do, but the non-participants show higher stress and somatization than the participants do.
3. In analysis of ANOVA among five types of sport participation groups, the participants show higher in social support than the non-participants do. The non-participants show more stress and somatization than the participants do.
4. In analysis of correlation, 1) there is correlation between sport participation and stress 2) there is correlation between sport participation somatization 3) there is correlation between social support and stress.
5. In analysis multiple regression, the variables of sport participation, social and psychological variables explain about 31% of the older's stress, and sport participation and social support have significant effect on the older's stress.
