Physical education and sluts that have been developed along with human beings' history have been playing a crucial role to the extent that they capture our attention. However, ideals for amateurism that has been developed for purely praising winners and participants in games since religious games in ancient Olympic are undergoing various changes in thoughts along with changes in times. Currently, even Olympic games, which are settled as the global village's greatest sports festival, shed the past thinking of stressing and pursuing amateurism, and have now changed to allow professional players and teams to participate and demonstrate their skills. This change in sports spirit is seen as a possibility of the coexistence of amateurism and professional according to changes in times, and also as a lack of establishment of uniform ideologies for sports spirit. Hence, this research aims to review the concept and meaning of amateurism and professionalism, and problems surrounding the two sports spirits that currently coexist, and understand, integrate and develop them. The research came out with the following results. First, in popular society and capitalist society on which professionalism is based, efforts should be made and due attention should be drawn to help sports contribute to human society and to conduct new interpretation and recreation of amateurism to shed the lack or shortages of value facing us and create sports ideals. Second, both professionalism and amateurism seek to accomplish wholesome human character being pursued by sports, as their ideal pursuit and goal. Thus, this leads to the essential goal and absolute task of sports human science. Third, those who pursue amateurism and professionalism to promote and activate living sports for modern people should present a direction for playing a right role in the future, with the backing of joint efforts and support. By performing these common tasks, all matters and converse-function elements that amateurism and professionalism are faced with can be overcome and mutually balanced development can be achieved.
