From the first half of the 4th to the middle of the 2nd century B.C., there were dozens of attempts to change the social and economic position by way of revolution in the Greek World. And those were characteristic phenomena in that era. Those were called stasis in historical materials, and their fundamental claims were 'cancelation of debts' and 'redistribution of land'. These claims were derived from 'social polarity', which have caused social conflicts from the end of the Classical period. In Sparta there appeared social conflicts derived from economic conditions. Its origin was twofold, one is military and the other economic. Due to the defeat of Leuktra, the territory of Sparta was diminished and concentration of wealth deprived the citizenship of many Spartans. In order to resolve these internal social problems and to regain the international position of classical Sparta, from the middle of the third to the start of the second century B. C., a series of Spartan kings made an attempt to enlarge the citizenry and reoccupy the hegemony of Peloponnesos by radical social reform and warfare. In Sparta, the leader of revolutionary movements were kings, and this was a natural consequence. Because she had to cure the decline of its international position and internal social problems simultaneously. This tendency was characteristic in using international 'check and balance' to achieve the reform. Not localized struggle and warfare, but strategy and war of Mediterranean scale was a characteristic feature of this age. An attempt to participate that 'big politics' constituted a consistent feature of so-called 'non-traditional kings', from Areus to Nabis. In this monements, Kleomenes taken the Macedonian military style and sarrisa(Macedonian style long spear), and Nabis taken his policy, too. These movements were important, because these kings works made Hellenistic Sparta different one with Classical Sparta.
