This article addresses the debate on the purpose of theological education. It presents, first, a critical review of the works of scholars on the emphases and models of theological education. Then, in an attempt to build on the paradigm and principles of the Scripture with regard to theological education, exegesis and exposition was done on Mark’s explicit statement on the purposes of Jesus in educating and training the Twelve disciples (Mark 3:13 19) - to be with him and to be sent by him. Finally, the implication for our admission and training of theological students considering their calling, being, and doing is given.
