Diesel oxidation catalysts(DOC) promote chemical oxidation of CO and HC as well as the SOF portion of diesel particulates. In the Midium-Duty diesel area, the DOC has been widely applied in the retrofit market. As the special act for the improvement of air quality in the capital area, the retrofit program for DOC has progressed favorably and there are currently over 90,000 of these DOC installed to in-use vehicle for retrofit applications in Korea. A DOC is a flow through device that consists of a canister containing a honeycomb-like structure or substrate. The substrate has a large surface area that is coated with an active catalyst layer.
To verify the In-Use performance of DOC during warranty period, DOC equipped vehicles are randomly selected and taken away from the vehicle. The selected DOCs are tested on a standard test vehicle to be representative of the group on vehicle application which verification is sought. In this verification test, the PM reduction rate of DOC and the deviation of the performance was examined and also the test result for specific DOC was analyzed. Some DOCs failed to pass the criteria of the PM reduction rate.
