The aims of this article is to explain the change of Lee ki-young’s novels at the end of colonial era(1937-1945). Up to recently, researches of this article explain that his novels pass from ‘proletarian’ to ‘pseudo imperial’ identity. In this case, dichotomy of civilization and barbarism is the core of imperialism. Accordingly, koreans treat Manchurian as a barbarian and consider oneself as a civilized man in Manchuria. but he represented Manchurian as to be a familiarity and inreasonableness his novels.
This research explains the change that his novels pass from realism to romanticism at the method of creation. Lee ki-young composed the narrative that Korean settler exploited a Manchuria continent. Lee ki-young explored a possibility of the national identity by means of korean settler’s leading a exploitation of Manchuria continent. Whereas Lee ki-young erased the existence and history of Manchuria because of korean settler’s dominant role in Manchuria. In his novels, The discourse of Manchuria represented complicated relations with discourse of a imperial and discourse of a subject state.
