In early days the great private universities such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton were founded as Christian Higher Institutes. However, all have gradually been secularized because of separation of faith and learning, and pursuit of academic excellence.
In the latter of 20th century, emergence of evangelism, criticism of American higher education, and CCCU made Christian higher institutes focus on their identity as Christian institutes.
In this paper, 8 Korean and American Christian Institutes were analyzed in terms of selection of professor, chapel, Christian liberal arts curriculum, and integration of faith and learning. There are distinctive differences between Korean Christian Institutes and American counter parts. Based on analysis, some suggestions are made for Korean schools. The Christian liberal arts curriculum should be developed. It is recommended that schools should provide extensive support and resource for faith and learning integration, such as personnel, financial, and release time. In addition to these, professors and administrators should feel faith integration is an essential part of Christian higher education.
