There are two types of rhythm in Jeong Ji-yong's poetry. The first one is enumeration of the same kind of sentential elements. The second one is repetition of connective endings ‘~ㄴ/는’. In this thesis, the rhythm of the former is achieved by the parallel, while that of the latter by the repetition. The parallel case is limited to that of the succession of nouns with the connective words. Parallel is the repetition of small units, while repetition is that of large units. When they are combined, it can be the third method to manifest the rhythm in Jeong Ji-yong's poetry.
The repetition of the syntactic phrases produces rhythm, indicating the pause clarifying units of the meaning. Moreover, it is intensified by the repetitive endings or postpositional words. They work like visual index of the rhythm. In addition, the repetition of the semantic unit makes rhythm, which is not cut off or broken down by the division of a verse.
Thanks to the rhythm of Jeong Ji-yong's poetry, the acute sense of dynamics does not sink into the tone of defeatism. Reading it silently, one can feel the active movement in it. For this reason, the meaning of his poetry is not fixed. The steady flow of musicality of Jeong Ji-yong's is demonstrated by this rhythm.
