The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the treadmill exercise program on cardiovascular function and cardiovascular disease mortality possibility in the middle-aged men. In the program, the subjects were classified into four groups: severe obese(n=7), obese(n=7), overweight(n=7) and normal(n=7). Each of the subjects was provided with a 12-week treadmill exercise program suited to his capacity. The amount of time for their exercise was 30~45min a day for 3~5days a week. In measurement index, body composition, aerobic capacity, cardiovascular disease mortality possibility of changes were measured by the submaximal exercise stress test. Results of this study were as follows; As for the cardiovascular function, there was a decrease of body weight in all the groups, a decrease of body fat in the normal, obesity, and severe obese groups, an increase of body fluid in the normal, obesity, and severe obesity groups, and a decrease of BMI in the overweight, obesity and severe obesity groups. The resting heart rate decreased in the obesity and severe obesity groups, and the highest rest heart rate increased in the normal and severe obesity groups. The resting systolic blood pressure decreased in the overweight and severe obesity groups, and the highest rest systolic blood pressure decreased in the obesity and severe obesity groups. The DTS increased at inductions V2 and V5 in the severe obesity group before their participation in the exercise program, and the CVM after five years decreased in the overweight, obesity and severe obesity groups. In general, the increase of body fat accounted for the likelihood of cardiovascular function decreasing and a cardiovascular disease occurring, but regular participation in the exercise program helps improve the cardiovascular function, decrease the likelihood of a cardiovascular disease occurring, and reduce the predictive value of the annual cardiovascular mortality.
